Earth Hour 2010 in Cebu

This year, Earth Hour will be at 8.30pm on Saturday March 27, 2010. Show your support by turning off your lights for one hour. In Cebu, malls, organizations and individuals have prepared a number of activities for us.

Earth Hour in Cebu

Aboitizland celebrates Earth Hour at The Persimmon Plus - Aboitizland's Urban Village, Mabolo Cebu City. On March 27, 2010, there will be hourly lectures on practical ways to conserve (9AM-6PM) and an Abiotiz Walkathon from the Aboitiz Corporate Center in Banilad to The Persimmon Plus (assembly time will be at 4:30PM). From 6PM onwards, there will be a countdown to the Earth Hour with drum beaters, fire dancers and tribal/acoustic bands.

Ayala Center Cebu will switch off 70 percent of its lights and its elevators and escalators from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. as part of the Earth Hour campaign, with a goal of saving 3000 kW of electricity. The ceremonial turning off of the lights will be done at The Terraces right after the Side A concert.

Also, WWF.org.ph has organized an Earth Hour photo/video contest. Document Earth Hour in your locality, using your mobile phone or digital camera and show the world how committed Filipinos are to united action against climate change. To join, click THIS

If you prefer to just stay at home, please do not forget to switch off your lights at 8:30PM. Here are a number of ways to do at home for 1 hour:

  • Harness the combined romance of candlelight and eco-chivalry to pop the question. *wink wink
  • Host an acoustic music night.
  • Star-gazing. Look for stars in the darker night sky.
  • Have a spooky night. Tell ghost stories.
  • Prove to yourself and others that you can go 60 minutes without updating your Facebook status. Ohyeaaah! :)
Post-script:
March 27 may be the first official day for the campaign of local positions, but let us not forget about our planet, our home. Vote Earth!
